St. Jude’s Privacy Policy

Many facilities claim that their guests have 100% confidentiality and privacy. However, this is not true. Any 12-step based, therapeutic based, psychiatrically based, or medically based program must, by law, keep records of your stay at their facility. This is because these facilities run on government funding and/or third party reimbursements. Even when a patient chooses to pay out of pocket at one of these facilities, a record is kept in the same databases as those who are paid by third party reimbursements or a government social services grant. In other words, no conventional rehabilitation program is truly confidential and/or subpoena proof.

At the St. Jude Executive Retreat there are no medical records kept because we are an educational facility/program, not a medical/therapeutic model. The Jude Thaddeus Program does not attempt to tell you how to live, as is the case with conventional confrontational based programs. Rather, we instruct people on methods of self discovery and future goal setting. We educate the guest, and the guest is then given the freedom to make their own choices.

Our facilities are regulated by the NYS Health Department, and the NYS Attorney General’s Charities Bureau (all our facilities are divisions of Baldwin Research Institute, Inc., a NYS not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, putting our retreat house financials under the auspices of the Charities Bureau). Our instructors are all NYS certified teachers or NYS certified teacher’s aides and are regulated by the NYS Department of Education. None of these regulatory agencies require guest information, and therefore no guest information is kept. Should a guest’s stay be paid for by a personal credit card, the guest’s credit card information is kept for a period no longer than is needed for the transaction to process, and to process a refund should the guest make the decision not to stay. The credit card information is then deleted from our accounting system.

Research Confidentiality

Should a guest decide to become part of the retreat house success rate surveys conducted by the Clearwater Research Company’s Annual Guest Post Program Survey (a completely independent research firm), then their partial contact information is kept for research purposes only in a separate secured database. A first name is held in the database, and is assigned an identity number, thereby assuring confidentiality. Over 99% of our guests during the last 17 years have participated in the surveys with no security breach.

The Jude Thaddeus Program does not provide any medical services. Should a guest want or need detoxification services, then they should consult their own doctor and go to the local hospital. Guests who may want or need psychiatric help can get the help they want (or need) by requesting an appointment with any one of several credentialed psychiatrist, locally. If a guest wants or needs medical attention, they are provided with whatever help they may require making those arrangements and are provided transportation to the appropriate facility and/or specialist. This enables the guest to receive the proper care, while maintaining total confidentiality and privacy while attending Saint Jude Retreats.

High Profile Guests

All of the Saint Jude Retreats are in small villages or isolated rural or mountain settings. Because Saint Jude Retreats have a small occupancy per facility, they go relatively unnoticed by the public. The largest facility has only 24 guests at a time and the Saint Jude Executive Retreat, specifically, has occupancy for 5 guests. These numbers are in stark contrast to the average American rehabilitation center where 85 patients is the average occupancy.
